Sound Advice 2008 - July 13-18 - Piping and Drumming Summer School

Pledge support to this worthwhile community event

Since 1996, the sights and sounds of Scotland have come to Regina! This year the Regina Highland Festival Association presents the Regina Highland Games happening Sunday, May 20, 2007. You can be involved in this major cultural festival as a valued sponsor.

The Highland Games are an enormous community event that appeal to people of all ages. It is a festival that features non-stop programming throughout the day and the evening. We organize heritage & vendor booths, a pipe band competition, a highland dance contest and a heavy events strongman contest.

In the evening we host a massive Scottish celebration called a “ceilidh” (pronounced kay-lee)—which is similar to a cabaret. This celebration is held outdoors under our large Festival Tent and features live music and dance performances. Given the tent atmosphere combined with a high energy Celtic band, the ceilidh is definitely a games highlight as attendants look forward to it every year. Competitors and participants travel from all across the prairies to meet in Regina for this special gathering each spring. Annual attendance for the games is well over 4000 people.

In recent years, the games have been tremendously successful as public attendance levels increased dramatically over previous years. Many people commented on the strength of the promotional and marketing campaign. We had major news coverage on all TV and radio stations, write-ups in the newspapers, a TV commercial, radio ads, an on-site broadcast, newspaper advertisements, as well as extensive poster distribution and Internet coverage. We plan to build on our aggressive marketing and promotional strategy and raise the public profile of the highland games as a premier city attraction.

The Regina Highland Games has continually grown each year since its inception in 1996. This success is the result of a dedicated group of organizers who believe in the importance of this event and understand the types of benefits it provides for the community. The organizers work diligently all-year round preparing and organizing to ensure that everything will run smoothly on the festival date. Game sponsors are important contributors to the well-being of the festival as they help to provide a secure financial foundation for the games. Our group of organizers work closely and enthusiastically with all game sponsors to ensure they receive proper recognition and full satisfaction with their investment.
